Frequently Asked Questions

Questions & answers

Common questions about how the Medutest analytical programme procures, tests, scores and publishes its findings.

What is Medutest?

Medutest is an independent analytical house that procures peptides and research compounds blind, has them assayed at accredited commercial laboratories, and publishes every result — favourable or not. The public record currently covers 16,294 samples across 198 vendors and 295 products, tested at 7 laboratories.

How does Medutest test products?

Each sample is taken through a full panel: identity confirmation by LC-MS, chromatographic purity and related-substance quantification by HPLC-UV, content/potency against the vendor’s claim, heavy metals by ICP-MS (USP <232>/<233>), bacterial endotoxins by the LAL test (USP <85>), and sterility/bioburden by culture (USP <71>) for injectable presentations.

How is the 0–10 score calculated?

Every tested sample receives a score from 0 (completely failed) to 10 (perfect), built from a purity component (0–4 points), a quantity-accuracy component (0–4 points based on divergence from the claimed amount) and a batch-information component (0–2 points). Components between thresholds are interpolated linearly.

What do the letter grades A–E mean?

Scores roll up into a Medutest Rating per product/vendor pair: A (Great), B (Good), C (Okay), D (Poor) and E (Bad). A pair must meet or exceed thresholds for average score, minimum score and number of tests to qualify for a grade. Pairs with fewer than two tests are marked X (Unrated).

Are the samples procured blind?

Yes. Samples are purchased the way any client would purchase them — unannounced, at retail, under neutral names — so vendors cannot curate what we receive. The laboratory never knows the vendor and the vendor never knows the laboratory.

Can I submit my own sample for testing?

Yes. If you hold a vial you cannot vouch for, you can send it to the house. Medutest will have it analysed at an accredited laboratory at no cost and enter the result into the public ledger.

Is Medutest affiliated with the vendors it rates?

No. Medutest is independent and sells nothing. Ratings are based on real laboratory results, never on marketing, and the unfavourable results are published alongside the favourable ones.

Is anything on Medutest medical advice?

No. Results describe the specific samples assayed and are published for harm-reduction and research transparency. Nothing on the site is medical advice.
